Introduction:
In order to address the gender parity in RSPs; NRSP-Institute of Rural Management (IRM) and Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) joined hands to launch leadership programme tailored for women called Women’s Leadership Programme.

In order to design WLP’s methodology, selection criteria and the course contents of the programme a comprehensive Training Needs Assessment (TNA) was conducted by holding brain storming sessions with a diversified group of people consisting of the target beneficiaries (women professionals), staff of RSPs, NGOs and also government officials. Feedback and identified needs were incorporated in the design in order to have a more holistic and practical training course.

The Programme was announced in January 2007 and there was an overwhelming response to the call for applications to a place in the inaugural Women’s Leadership Program which is a clear indication that there is a need and an appetite for this area of professional development. However because of budgetary constraints only 18 participants could be catered for in the Cohort I which graduated in year 2007.  Cohort-II of the programme commenced from January 2008 which will continue uptill December 2008, 18 more participants have been enrolled in this programme as well.

Objectives:
The aim of the WLP is to develop a cadre of women professionals to provide them with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to move to the next higher level in the organizational structure and eventually reach top management positions, it would also enhance the professional development of women leading to their full, effective and efficient participation in their respective work places.
