Women empowerment has always been a focus of IRM, training in rural areas are always focused towards women empowerment and self-reliance of women, IRM has conducted two exclusive women focused leadership programmes to empower Pakistani women, i.e. Women Leadership Programme (exclusively for RSP Women Professionals) and Young Professional Leadership Programme (YPLP) for all Pakistani Women Professionals.
The aim of the Women focused programmes (WLP and YPLP) was to develop a cadre of women professionals to provide them with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to tread the managerial echelon in their organizations and eventually reach the apex. It also enhanced the professional development of women leading to their full, effective and efficient participation in their respective work places.
In order to address the gender disparity in RSPs, NRSP – IRM and Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) through the funding of DFID joined hands to launch leadership programme tailored for women professionals of RSP family. The ultimate aim was to develop a cadre of women professionals with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to move to higher levels in the organizational structure and to eventually reach top management positions. The programme was designed to improve women’s knowledge of their rights and the status of young women through education, employment, leadership and other opportunities. WLP aimed to assist young women to effectively respond to every day challenges in their lives, increase their knowledge and use of positive skill sets, and feel supported in making choices that improve their futures. International exposure visits were also a significant part of this programmes to broaden their vision. It was a four-year extensive programme started in 2008 and came to an end in 2011, through his programme 77 young professional women and leaders got trained.
The specific objectives of YPLP were to build a cadre of women development professionals in effective leadership and rural development management and to build the leadership and management capacity of women professionals in public and private organizations.
With the support of Norwegian Embassy, IRM and Human Resource Development Network joined hands together to initiate a leadership programme customized for women professionals called Young Professionals Leadership Programme (YPLP). The programme was a replication of WLP. YPLP provided professional development opportunities for Pakistani women to make that happen. It was a two-year programme which was started in February 2009 and came to an end in 2011. Overall 59 young professionals were graduated through this two-year programme.
